Dinosaur Trail
Gina Lamb, Phillips County
Phillips County Prevention collaborated with the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum and Phillips County Museum to celebrate 20 years on the Montana Dinosaur Trail this summer. The Great Plains Dinosaur Museum, “2 Million Years in the Making, 20 Years on the Trail”, along with the Phillips County Museum hosted Roar & Explore Day! A fun filled day of a Dino Hunt, the Prehistoric Playland Carnival, JurRUSTic Scrap Metal Contest & Geocaching Adventure with awards, the premier of the newly released Jurassic World: Rebirth movie at our local theatre, and Dinosaur Talks with the renowned paleontologist Dr. Jack Horner. Prevention Specialist Gina Lamb assisted with the planning of this alcohol and drug free event for all ages, and provided prizes for the Prehistoric Carnival. She was also on hand during the day as a member of the Malta Kiwanis Club which provided free hotdogs, chips and drinks to every child who attended the event.
FUN FACTS: “Leonardo,” the “mummy” Brachylophosaurus, found in 2001 near Malta, with the majority of its body covered in fossilized skin, is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the best preserved dinosaur ever found. A cast of the specimen is on display at the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum in Malta. Along with “Elvis”, a nearly complete and articulated hadrosaur, found near Malta in 1994. It was named for the Rock-n-Roll Legend because its hip was found first. The 33-foot long Brachylophosaurs fossil is on display at Malta’s Phillips County Museum and Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman.
