Evaluation Committee Highlights

The July-Sept. 2012 Quarterly Indicator Report shows the following trends:

Alcohol
• Arrests of youths age 14-17 have been steadily declining, from 249 in 2007 to 81 for in 2012.
• There was only one DUI arrest of a youth age 14-17 in 2012. This is a dramatic decrease from 19 in 2005.

Tobacco
• Twenty middle-school students were disciplined for tobacco related offenses in 2012—the most since 2005.
• Tobacco-related hospital emergencies of youths age 14-17 have decreased steadily to 28 in 2012 from a high of 61 in 2010.
• Tobacco-related hospital emergencies of youths age 18-20 have decreased steadily to 112 in 2012 from a high of 209 in 2010.

Drugs
• Drug-related hospital emergencies of youths age 14-17 and 18-20 have been increasing steadily since 2008.

Fights and Other Violent Behavior
• The number of middle-school and high-school students disciplined for fights and other violent behavior appears to have increased somewhat from last year.
• Arrests of all youths for family/partner assaults and violence have decreased dramatically since 2005.
