Fallon County Hidden in Plain Sight and Other Activities
Beth Regan, Fallon County Block Grant
Prevention Specialist Beth Regan provided the Hidden In Plain Sight mock bedroom setup during parent teacher conferences in Baker. It was a small space to set up in, but it worked out just fine. Many teachers, parents and community members toured the room and were shocked by what they saw and learned. It was agreed that early education is vitally important to teach kids the reality of what substance use is and the effects it has on their growing minds. Parents and staff were grateful for the eye-opening experience.
We also participated in the Straw Bale Trail contest. We decorated our straw bales to represent the equine program that is provided for youth in Fallon County through EMCMHC’s Prevention Services. Equine-Assisted Learning is an evidence-based approach that increases resiliency, confidence and many other social emotional skills in a fun and interactive way. The Coffee House was kind enough to share a space for us to set up our bales in front of their coffee shop.
*EMCMHC’s very own Darcy Bennett visited the straw bale setup and discovered she had a twin!
Coffee Sleeves with positive messages through movie quotes were also provided to the Coffee House. They made a contest out of the last batch of sleeves that were provided. The first person to collect all of them and bring them in got a free drink.
We are working together with the Baker High School principal, Ekalaka’s superintendent and Josh from State of Mind to bring this amazing event to the communities of Baker and Ekalaka sometime this winter or in the spring. We are working on setting dates soon!
