STRENGTHENING OUR FAMILIES TO PREVENT SUBSTANCE USE
STRENGTHENING OUR FAMILIES TO PREVENT SUBSTANCE USE
Thursday, September 21
7:00 p.m.
Plymouth Congregational Church
Linda Naseem, author of “Nothing” published in 2015, retired RN and drug prevention speaker will present “Strengthening Our Families to Prevent Substance Use” to parents, prospective parents and those interested in serving the youth of Helena at Plymouth Congregational Church Thursday, Sept 21 at 7:00 pm. The title of the talk is “Our Kids on Drugs-Why?” Ms. Nassem is from Colorado and has extensive experience in nursing and the effects of drug usage.
Ms. Naseem wrote her book partly to “recover from the experience of being the wife of an addict and as a nurse working in jails.” “Nothing” is the story of meth addiction and its effect on the addict’s family. In an interview with Speak Up Talk Radio Network Ms. Naseem states that she believes “we are attacking the problem of drugs mainly from the viewpoint of somebody who already is an addict and in the process we are creating more addicts because we’re not taking care of the needs of people before they get to that point.”
During the course of her talk, Naseem will discuss the definition of addiction and how addiction affects the addict and those closest to the addict. She will highlight national statistics, the “Culture of Escape” and the role of the family. There will be time for questions, discussion and the possibility of follow up and support. Ms. Naseem is brought to Helena by the Helena Baha’i community. This event is free and open to the public.
