Clare Menahan and Elizabeth Spindler Youth Volunteers of the Month – May
Clare Menahan and Elizabeth Spindler are seniors at Helena High and have been on Planned Parenthood’s Teen Council for two years. Both Clare and Elizabeth spent one day a week for the entire school year learning about healthy sexuality. They became peer mentors at both Helena High and Capital High by presenting to the health classes of each school. They have testified at the school board meetings when the health curriculum was first debated as well as at the Capitol to educate legislators on the importance of having comprehensive sex education in the schools.
Individually, Clare volunteered to speak at a church youth group on healthy/unhealthy relationships and participated in numerous rallies to educate her peers on the importance of getting tested for STD’s. Clare volunteers her time on the Helena Education Foundation Board, is the Helena High student rep for the school board, participates in plays at Grandstreet Theatre and played a violin Solo at Night to Shine. It has been a pleasure working with Clare because she cares very deeply about her community and it shows through her numerous commitments on the various boards.
Elizabeth sang a solo (Ordinary People) at Planned Parenthood’s fundraiser and at Night to Shine which brought down the house. Elizabeth spends her free time acting at Grandstreet Theatre, playing tennis on the tennis team and participating in her church youth group. It has been a joy having Elizabeth on teen council because she has helped so many teens be true to themselves. Elizabeth is a kind role model with integrity.
